Description
Spend the morning exploring the Cité, Basilica and the visconte castle of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city’s strategic location proved optimal throughout multiple periods of history, from Neolithic times through the Middle Ages. The city’s fortified hilltop was constructed during the Gallo-Roman times, and was expanded upon in the 13th and 14th centuries.
Today, Carcassonne is the largest walled city in Europe with its massive walls spanning 3 km and 52 defensive towers overlooking the rest of the city.
Free time for lunch or enjoy an authentic southern France picnic (€20 / pers).
In the afternoon choose between visiting Lagrasse village and its abbey or Limoux village and the Abbey of St. Hilair before treating your palate to some local wine.
Lagrasse Village and Abbey.
Head off to the Corbières wine region and visit one of France’s plus beaux (most beautiful) villages, the spectacular pink roofed village of Lagrasse with it’s picturesque bridges over the Orbieu River. Stroll through the village enjoying the medieval architecture and natural surroundings of the Corbières hills before visitng the Abbey of St. Mary. This Romanesque Benedictine abbey was built in the 7th Century and is still active today.

Sample an array of Languedoc wines and learn the secrets of winemaking at one of the local wineries as you tour France’s largest wine region.
